When we talk about successful teams, what comes to mind first? Skills? Strategies? Tools?
While these elements matter, there’s one often overlooked and essential factor: how people communicate with each other.
As a coach working with NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and Positive Psychology, I’ve seen firsthand how transforming communication within teams can unlock creativity, trust, and true collaboration. It’s not about fancy jargon or corporate-speak; it’s about connection, intention, and respect.
Here are 5 simple yet powerful tips to help you create communication that doesn’t just exchange information but truly connects people.
1. Set a Clear Intention Before You Speak
Have you ever caught yourself saying something without really thinking about why? NLP teaches us that every message carries an intention. Before you speak, pause and ask yourself: What do I want to achieve? How do I want the other person to feel?
Being mindful of your intention helps avoid misunderstandings and keeps conversations purposeful and positive.
2. Choose Positive, Constructive Language
Words shape our reality. When we frame things positively, we invite cooperation and open minds.
Instead of saying, “You didn’t understand,” try, “Let me explain it differently.” This small shift in language fosters encouragement and makes people more receptive.
3. Listen Actively and Empathetically
True listening is more than just hearing words. It means tuning into feelings, body language, and what’s unsaid.
Practice active listening by reflecting back what you hear and showing genuine curiosity. This creates trust and makes your colleagues feel truly heard.
4. Give Genuine Recognition
Everyone wants to feel valued. When you sincerely acknowledge someone’s efforts or achievements, you boost their motivation and strengthen the team spirit.
Positive Psychology highlights the power of authentic praise, not just empty compliments, but recognition that resonates.
5. Foster Psychological Safety
People thrive when they feel safe to share ideas, ask questions, and even make mistakes without fear of judgment.
Build a culture where respect and emotional openness are non-negotiable. This creates fertile ground for innovation and collaboration.
Effective internal communication isn’t just about exchanging information,it’s about building bridges between people. It’s about speaking with intention, listening with empathy, and nurturing an environment where everyone feels connected and empowered.
Car au cœur de toute organisation, il y a des individus. Et au cœur de chaque individu, un besoin fondamental : celui d’être compris, respecté et valorisé.
True growth happens where doing meets being.
